What is Truth?

August 2008  Vol. II Number 8

Will God Bless America?

We are at the point in a presidential election year when campaigns usually begin. This year however, is different. For whatever reason the powers that be in the two major political parties decided to move things up a bit so now instead of being at the beginning of the Silly Season we are over half way into it.

To make matters more interesting, some would say worse, we now have three people (three and a half if you count Huckabee) still actively contending, one of whom will in all probably be the next President of the United States of America. This is the most diverse group ever to contend for the most powerful position in the world; a white female, a black male and 2 white males. Even more diverse is their religious backgrounds;

·     H. Clinton professes to be a Christian but her real religion is Liberalism.

·     We have B. Hussein Obama professing to be a Christian but his credential are lacking since he was raised by two Muslim men and an atheist mother not to mention that the “Christian” church of which he is a member is pastored by a black separatists who believes Louis Farrakhan (of Nation of Islam fame) is the greatest man on the planet.

·     We have one J. McCain who by all accounts is a non-practicing Presbyterian and then there is

·     M. Huckabee a backsliding Baptist preacher whose world view is more postmodern than Biblical.

Now of course there is no religious test for one to be President, although Mitt Romney may disagree with that. However, given the field of choice it appears to me that Satan has more horses in this race than the Our Lord.

Now I don’t propose or even suggest that we should be a Theocracy. Nations run by Religions have not fared well throughout history. It seems that God wants folks to live by his Truth not something man makes up on his own. I truly believe that is why the USA has gained such greatness in so short a period of time. We have ruled ourselves by a government and laws based on His teaching. That is until about 50 years ago. Somewhere back then we (the nation collectively) decided that we, having done so well the past 200 years, had all the answers. Thus we began the process of removing God’s Truth from our lives and replacing it with our own bastardized version known as “relative truth.”

When I think of our country today I do not see that shining city on a hill that President Reagan often referred to. Other cities come to mind; Sodom and Gomorrah, Ninevah and Jerusalem. Other great nations come to mind also; Israel, Babylon, Assyria and Rome. It is not much of a stretch to compare those cities and nations to our country today.

Unfortunately I do not see any leader among our current choices that can turn this trend around. To the contrary, I see us sinking deeper into the morass of apostasy. We have a choice between bad and worse and I am not at all sure that God is into blessing America at this time.
